Inspired by director Taika Waititi and dark comedy Jojo Rabbit
After years of ‘painful and frustrating’ rejections and many failed attempts at securing film finance via routes like the BFI and BBC, Camille found herself on the set of the highly regarded Jojo Rabbit (2019) and observed director Taika Waititi at work.
Impressed with his use of humour to broach the delicate subject of Nazi Germany, she felt inspired to make her own dark comedy, Silent Night (2021).
This time, though, she decided not to go through the usual routes of funding a feature film.
Securing Keira Knightley for British ‘Christmas rom-com’ Silent Night
Watch the interview to discover how she went from an initial 80k budget to successfully bringing together an all-star cast for a refreshing British dark comedy. Hint: it helps when you’re able to bring British movie star Keira Knightley on board.
SILENT NIGHT is in Theaters and streaming exclusively on AMC+.
SILENT NIGHT CAST: Keira Knightley (Pirates of the Caribbean Franchise), Matthew Goode (Downton Abbey), Roman Griffin Davis (Jojo Rabbit), Annabelle Wallis (“Peaky Blinders”), Lily Rose-Depp (Voyagers), Ṣọpé Dìrísù (“Gangs of London”), Kirby Howell-Baptiste (“The Good Place”), Lucy Punch (Into the Woods), Rufus Jones (”Flack”) and Trudie Styler (Filth, Moon).
LOGLINE: In true British fashion, (while the rest of the world faces impending doom), a group of old friends reunite to celebrate Christmas in the comfort of an idyllic country home. Burdened with the inconvenience of mankind’s imminent destruction, they adopt a stiff upper lip, crack open another bottle of prosecco and continue with their festivities. But no amount of stoicism can replace the courage needed for their last night on earth. OFFICIAL
